This guide is specific to Apple Mail for OS X Mavericks. If you are unsure which version of OS X you are using, you can check by doing the following:
- Open the Apple Menu ().
- Select About This Mac.
If you are not using OS X Mavericks, then you will need to refer to the guide which corresponds to your version of OS X.
The following steps will assist you in setting your e-mail account up in Apple Mail:
1. Open Mail.
2. Select Mail from the menu and click on Accounts.
3. From the Internet Accounts window, click on the + sign located at the bottom left-hand corner. A list of account types will appear: scroll down and select Add Other Account.
4. In the Choose an account type window, select Add a Mail Account and click on Create.
5. In the Add a Mail Account window, you will be prompted for the following information:
- Full Name: Enter your first and last name. This is the name that will appear in the From field of messages you send.
- E-mail Address: Enter your entire e-mail address (e.g.: mail@example.com).
- Password: Enter the password for your e-mail account.
Hold the Option key down on your keyboard while at the above window. The Continue button will change to Next; this will allow you to configure your account manually. Click on the Next button.
6. Enter the following details in the Incoming Mail Server Info window:
- Account Type: IMAP
- Mail Server: mail.yourdomain (e.g.: mail.example.com)
- User Name: Enter your entire email address (e.g.: mail@example.com).
- Password: Enter the password for your e-mail account.
Click on the Next button.
7. You will be prompted for additional Incoming Mail Server Info:
- Port: 143
- Use SSL: Remove the tick from this box.
- Authentication: Set this to Password.
Click on the Next button.
8. Enter the following details in the Outgoing Mail Server Info window:
- SMTP Server: mail.yourdomain (e.g.: mail.example.com)
- User Name: Enter your entire email address (e.g.: mail@example.com).
- Password: Enter the password for your e-mail account.
Click on the Create button to save your settings.
